I'd love to, but sadly I don't have a mac to compile it on. :( (Or much mac experience, either.) You can ask Andy at Inivis though. I sent him the sources a while ago, and he might be able to compile it.

Hello,

The Displacement Mapper is a very nice feature for ac3d
I could help me allot ... because it is not possible to grow objects in ac3d ... just scale ...
but with irregular forms is this not an option ...
For example creating an inside of a bottle (give it thickness) ...
Or create an object for the label on the bottle witch is slightly bigger
the problem is that I work on a mac ... and the plugin is just for windows ...
Is it possible to make a plugin for the mac version ?
It should really help me

oh.. i am quite frustrated now.. i´ve been trying to import into SL now for hours.. and cant see my mistake.. ffffffff... I ve been reading an searching and whatever. But i dont see the mistake. AC3D V. 6.4.30.
Working with the predelivered objects for SL, changing them, export them (SL sculpted prim), move over to SL, upload it.. and in preview while upload i allready see that it is sh**.
All seems to focus around the uv map (i assume) but i really dont have an idea how to work that one out. I am not even trying to make that fish of yours. I simply use a (premade) cube, alter it a tiny bit, export it. No success. I tried to figure out how the TCE might affect it... but dont understand.
ahh.. pleassseeeee help...

Yes, correct, weld them together then uv map them after they are welded. Alternatively, if it's easier, you can start with one model and squeeze together the middle like I did in the tutorial to make one into two.

This is great but I'm lost on this part - Create your two shapes in AC3D, but make sure they are joined together when you build them

Do you weld them together? I'm still wanting to use polygon models but the maps are never working out even though they look to be in the tce. I think the two hardest things are the tce and figuring out how to divide things up more to get some precise details to stick. I use the sculpty models that were packaged in a zip for everything I make. I wish there was some polygon ones but the remapping in the tce is where I have my #1 problem.

Sculpted Prims with AC3D...

I for one was very relieved when the announcement about AC3D adding sculpted prim support came out. Yes, old news now, but old news is good news for those of us with severe allergic reactions to Blender. If you’ve never used AC3D before, it.....

You forgot YAFRAY - http://www.yafray.org/
And Toxic - http://www.toxicengine.org/

Never used Toxic, but it looks promising.

Also, 3D VirtualLight is broken. Bummer too.

Thank you. This was a very nice introduction to the subject - and answered a good handful of questions I've had for some time.

Thanks for the compliment!

I'd probably use a similar method. model my box or bar, and then fill it with emissive media, skipping the turbulence to give it a more solid look.

The other thing you could try is the looks_like command. The looks_like command allows you to attach an object to a light source. What you would do is create a light that cast on the other objects the way you want. Then, model your box and attach it to the light with the looks_like command. You can then still fill your box with emissive or scattering media so it glows. This gives you a box that is self-illuminated, but will still cast real light on other objects.

Hello,

Great post and an impressive result!

I would be interested in simulating a very simple situation compared to yours. I want to simulate a glowing rectangle (box), and bar . Any ideas on how to do this. I would like to have a wall near objects which reflects the emission slightly, just to add to the effect that they are actually emitting light.

Cheers,

Dan.
